My mom forwarded me an email about a bear and a bridge. Surprisingly, it was a pretty good little story. So good that I thought it deserved to be archived on a web page, not just passed around in an email. I have no idea where these pictures came from or the validity of the story, but based on the pictures it seems reasonably true.

Subject: Problem Solving

This bridge is on the Old Donner Pass Highway (near Nevada with northern California border). It has a spectacular view of Donner Lake and Donner Pass on Route 80.

A bear was walking across Rainbow Bridge (Old Hwy 40 at Donner Summit, Truckee, Ca) on Saturday when two cars also crossing the bridge scared the bear into jumping over the edge of the bridge. Somehow the bear caught the ledge and was able to pull itself to safety. ities decided that nothing could be done to help Saturday night so they returned Sunday morning to find the bear sound asleep on the ledge.

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/veganstraightedge/2251530442/" title="A bear was scared by two cars and jumped off a bridge. Somehow it held onto the underbelly of the bridge. It decided to take a nap, then was tranquilized. Fell more asleep. Somehow he was able to pull himself up onto the ledge where he saw he was in a very bad, impossible situation and what did he do? Yep, he took a nap and sure enough the situation took care of itself while he was asleep.

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/veganstraightedge/2250734277/" title="A bear was scared by two cars and jumped off a bridge.
I have pretty strong feelings about fonts (aka typefaces), but I've realized something. Almost all of the fonts that I love or hate are sans-serif. I'm pretty ambivalent about serif fonts. Which got me thinking:

What is the Helvetica of serif fonts?

I don't have an answer. I'd like some input from others.
