after successfully applying for a visitor visa for australia, i was asked "do you want to apply for another? [yes] [no]"

makes sense. maybe there's a group of you traveling together or something. when i chose no (because, i'm flying solo now) i was sent to this page that said:

"Thank you for using Electronic Travel ity System."

With a button underneath it that just said "Press".

Thanks, Australia!

10.5.2, you are my friend. you already remember my passwords (especially in mail.app). We know we love each other without having to say it.

Sooooooo awesome.

My upcoming traveling partner and best friend Nate is Captain Fall Down and Get Hurt. The other day in Antarctica he did just that. He sprained his ankle and has to cancel his participation in our 5 week awesome adventure.

So I guess I'm flying solo. Again.

Unless, someone wants to go to New Zealand, Australia and Hawaii for a month leaving on Sunday...

back in high school, i was taught that line segment trisection was iimpossible using just a compass and straightedge.

years later, i ran across this article in discover magazine somehow and made a copy.

amazingly, i've held onto that photocopy for something like 5 years. weird.

more to come...

My mom forwarded me an email about a bear and a bridge. Surprisingly, it was a pretty good little story. So good that I thought it deserved to be archived on a web page, not just passed around in an email. I have no idea where these pictures came from or the validity of the story, but based on the pictures it seems reasonably true.

Subject: Problem Solving

This bridge is on the Old Donner Pass Highway (near Nevada with northern California border). It has a spectacular view of Donner Lake and Donner Pass on Route 80.

A bear was walking across Rainbow Bridge (Old Hwy 40 at Donner Summit, Truckee, Ca) on Saturday when two cars also crossing the bridge scared the bear into jumping over the edge of the bridge. Somehow the bear caught the ledge and was able to pull itself to safety. ities decided that nothing could be done to help Saturday night so they returned Sunday morning to find the bear sound asleep on the ledge.

After securing a net under the bridge the bear was tranquilized, fell into the net, lowered, then woke up and walked out of the net.

There is a moral to this story you know; this old bear made a wrong move and found he was hanging by his nails. Somehow he was able to pull himself up onto the ledge where he saw he was in a very bad, impossible situation and what did he do? Yep, he took a nap and sure enough the situation took care of itself while he was asleep.

The moral is that when confronted with a bad situation sometimes the best solution is to take a nap...

I have pretty strong feelings about fonts (aka typefaces), but I've realized something. Almost all of the fonts that I love or hate are sans-serif. I'm pretty ambivalent about serif fonts. Which got me thinking:

What is the Helvetica of serif fonts?

I don't have an answer. I'd like some input from others.
