1.
Years ago when people still made each other actual mix tapes, I got a couple that were pretty awesome and have survived all the purges of stuff and big moves. Recently I came across them again and wished I could listen to them. I don't have and refuse to get a tape player again. I don't have most of the songs in digital form, so I'm asking for help. (Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi, you're my only hope.)

If you have any of these songs in some digital format and wouldn't mind kicking them down to me, I'd appreciate it. The ones crossed out I already have.

The first is one that Nate Duke made me after years of pestering him for a good mix of kind of indie hip hop stuff that I didn't know about. I got it from him in 2002, I think.

The other is one that Emily Kruse made for me in 1997. We had met through our zines. She sent me this tape. We became pals. Traded letters and tapes like good zinesters are supposed to. I ended up becoming good friends with both of her younger sisters and dating one for a couple years, too. Emily grew up and moved on from the kid life, but this tape is a perfect cross section of what she was like in the mid to late 90's. I still have this case and track listing but I've lost the tape, which sucks. But the part that really sucks is that the A-Side was a live recording of a show that Avail played at the Emerson in June of 1997. I'll prolly never hear that again.

So please please please help me track down these songs again. Thanks.

* - This is actually the way Nate wrote it on the tape and cover "Fxckin". I think he was being funny. I wouldn't ever feel like I had to censor any fucking words on this blog for any reason. Fuck.

Just filed federal taxes (which always feels weird) and because of making a small amount of money in a short period of time at a very high rate (I make good money at this new job, so i was getting taxed pretty high, but just started there 2.5 months ago) I'm in a pretty low tax bracket and get a really big return. 79% of what i paid to the man is coming back to me in 9-14 days. Sweet. This is also the earliest I've ever filed. Thank you internet.

There was a comic book artist name Seth Fisher whose art was amazing and unique. He died unexpectedly at a young age in 2006. Since then I've been meaning to get around to collecting up all of his relatively small body of work. In the past couple years I've moved away from singles into the world of just collected editions (trade paperback, hardcovers, graphic novels, etc.). So it was frustrating trying to figure out where all of his singles would fit into my library. The other day I decided that I would do what I saw some other kid do this year at Emerald City Con: bind all of the singles into a collection myself. (The kid I saw do it at Emerald City had all the of Grendel single issues bound into this huge tome in Grendel chronological order, not publication order.)

So here's his complete known published body of work. Well, he also designed 'hub' for Myst III: Exile, but I can't really bind that into a book, now can I?

I also know of at least one pinup he did in the back of one of The ity trades. I'll have to decide what length I'll go to get ALL of his published work. Hmm... If you know of anything not on this list that he did (however big or small) let me know.

    jay.
the pinup is of the doctor and a wacky cityscape behind him in the back of The Absolute ity volume 2.

    vicki.
    thanks!

For what it's worth, the story he did in the Big Book of Vice was the one on Smoking, and the story he did in the Big Book of the 70's was the one on Disco.

Yup, that’s the list as far as I know it.
If you find out which issue of ity Seth did a pinup for please post it. It may be that it was just in one of the bound/collections type things.
DC should also be collecting the Vertigo Pop (Seth’s Tokyo along with the Bangkok, together) sometime this year. They recently contacted Seth’s mom for reprint rights.
    Good luck with your collection!
    jay
